along with having an opening this week shop five one five is popping up at hidell brooks this thursday, may 4th from 10-4 pm. five one five is set to open their new space soon in eastover and we have always felt art comes in all forms. they will be bringing clothing by humanoid, electric feathers, closed denim, 3 x 1 denim, marissa webb, unfortunate portrait, mirth caftans, tela, and lingua franca to name a few. also one of hidell brooks' all time favorite designers from dallas tish cox will be at the gallery with her spring line from 10-2. we are very excited to meet tish and are inspired by her story.
for the few who haven’t already heard tish cox’s oft-told highland park cinderella story, here it is: once upon a time, a stay-at-home mom with no formal design experience made a dress for a friend from her kitchen island. donning the dress at fancy events, the friend earned enthusiastic compliments from none other than vogue’s andré leon talley and designer zac posen—a couple of magical moments that sparked an eponymous clothing line.
it’s a great story, no doubt. but as of last summer, cox has an even more inspiring chapter in the works: her luxury clothes are now made by blind and visually impaired sewers at the dallas lighthouse for the blind.
