hot off the press the new charlotte home design & decor magazine arts & architecture issue is a stunner! one of gallery artist sarah helser’s paintings from her most recent solo exhibition this past fall is on the cover. the collector’s home featured is a long time gallery friend and she knew immediately the painting would sing in her space. we had helped her years before to commission sarah to paint portraits of her beloved twins which are treasured belongings. the portraits of the girls are hanging in her front room right when you walk in the door to greet all houseguest. also seen over the mantle in the front room is a commission from a few years back by anke schofield we had the pleasure of helping with for her previous home. click here to see more of this wonderful home!
another collector’s home featured in the issue is a wonderful study in art & architecture by ruard veltman and designer julia wood. a grid of collages by geraldine neuwirth in the entry foyer make the entrance sing. the energy and colors pop off the white walls in stark contrast with the dark tones of the dining room. above the mantle in the dining room is a large painting of a chandelier by sarah helser. the chandelier imagery is sarah’s classic subject matter. sarah’s chandelier paintings have a glow from within. when a collector adds artwork to their home that they love and their designer + architect are on board to incorporate their finds everything falls into place. read the whole article here.
we have been avid collectors of art books for decades and have gotten a bit picking over the last few years. we wanted to share with you a few finds we have added to our library this year already. the new sweeping retrospective on joan mitchell published by SFMOMA in association with yale university press, offers a scholarly account of joan mitchell's transnational career and the cyclical nature of her painting. the color combo of the cover stopped us in our tracks.
looking forward to reading art + faith two of our favorite subjects. the book explores creativity and the spiritual aspects of “making.” ranging from the Bible to t. s. eliot, and from mark rothko to japanese kintsugi technique, the book shows how unless we are making something, we cannot know the depth of God’s being and God’s grace permeating our lives. need we say more.
last but not least the peter beard monograph originally published in 2006 is back now in a impressive large format making his intricate detailed photographs even more mesmerizing. ever since one of us just happened to be in paris in 1996 the night his solo retrospective exhibition opened at the centre national de la photographie right after the artist had recovered from being trampled and speared by the tusk of an elephant we have been huge fans. it was a night to remember with all of peter’s famous friends and subjects in attendance.
