as we have stated many times before we are in awe of the artists we represent at hidell brooks. we are on different sides of the table as dealers our passion for art is equivalent to their passion to create art. how an artist comes into their oeuvre is a mystery to us. what path an artist takes that leads them to their subject matter, materials, composition, and ulitimately approaching a canvas to create a painting are numerous choices that can seem overwhelming to the novice. gallery artist katherine ace is one of those artist whose work has always astounded us from the first time we saw one of her paintings hanging in the boutique hotel in portland, oregan where we stayed on a trip to visit another artist's studio. we both looked at each other and said 'love it' as we always do when we see a painting we like. it is as simple as that for us.
so when we stepped into the artist's home we flew across the country to visit and there sat on the wall another painting by the same artist from the hotel it was a done deal for us. katherine ace currently has a solo exhibition up at a amazing museum in jackson, michigan the ella sharp museum through january 2016. the museum is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year as well as the 25th anniversary of the museum's curator judy horn. katherine has 22 paintings hanging in the exhibition most of them large.
