intro...susan mcalister

December 26, 2014 Hidell Brooks

we are so excited to now be representing the beautiful paintings of charlotte artist susan mcalister. hidell brooks has followed susan's work for years and her landscape paintings are a wonderful addition to the gallery.  susan was born and raised in the hunt country of virginia and has been painting for over 30 years.  mcalister received her ba from davidson college and she has studied alongside numerous acclaimed and professional artists including herb jackson and eric aho.

'lost time cannot be recaptured, but the sensual experience of that past is relived in the transcendent layers of memory which susan mcAlister recalls in paint and wax. following in the traditions of the diverse works of faulkner, gorky, mitchell, inness and bearden, mcalister’s works invite us into the landscapes of our own space and time.”

Shaw Smith

Professor of Art History and Humanities at Davidson College

hidell brooks is getting ready for go figure a group exhibition of 14 artists whose works examine the human figure.  the viewing room at the gallery will be devoted to new paintings by susan mcalister for the opening on friday january 9th from 6-8 pm.  please call the gallery if you would like any further information.
